Corrections & Errata Policy
Accuracy in coordinates, cross-identifications, physical units, and uncertainty bounds is foundational to FastAstro.us. When an error is identified or a newer survey release supersedes an older catalog value, we update the underlying typed dataset and propagate the fix across all dependent profiles, tables, and JSON shards.
What We Correct
- Astrometric & Identifier Errors: Any typo in J2000 right ascension/declination, Messier/NGC/IC cross-identifications, or Hipparcos/HD numbers.
- Unit or Passband Mislabeling: Any confusion between parsec and light-year distances, arcminutes and arcseconds, or photometric filter bands.
- Newer Catalog Releases: Updates when Gaia, NASA Exoplanet Archive, or JPL Horizons publish revised orbital or astrometric solutions.
